When Chance The Rapper first surfaced, it was clear that this guy had an intention of changing the game with a sound so different. As is the usual case with guys like this, they either catch fire and fly up the hip hop ranks, as was the case with guys like Kid Cudi, Kanye West, B.o.B., Eminem, Kendrick, J Cole, Danny Brown, etc, – or they can just fizzle out, leaving nothing but a small trace of hits here and there. Chance, though, it’s clear, is here to stay. Going over a track by folk stud, James Blake, I knew that this song wasn’t going to be the prototypical hip-hop track, and I was right. “Life Round Here”, is a curious combination of synths and vocals quite reminiscent of Kanye’s “Hold My Liqueur”. As a 20 year old, Chance is already revolutionizing not only his sound, but music as an entity, and I can’t wait to see what else he can do. I haven’t been this high on a young guy since J. Cole and Kid Cudi, and I feel as though he can do more things than either. Enjoy.
