The precision in which Rench combines country and hip hop, two seemingly antithetical genres, into one revolutionary sound is incredible.  Jolowitz and I had the pleasure of speaking with the mind behind, the producer of, and the singer for Gangstagrass.  He discusses his work before Gangstagrass, what propelled him to fuse Bluegrass and Hip Hop, and the details behind his upcoming tour, among other things.  He also gives us exclusive news on an upcoming collaboration.

I found Gangstagrass‘ Lightning on the Strings, Thunder on the Mic in an “Albums That Need Review” bin at WMUA last year.  I am not and have never been a country fan by any extension of the imagination, but a bluegrass-hip-hop fuse sounded too wild for me to ignore.  The precision in which the New York group combines the two seemingly antithetical genres into one revolutionary sound is incredible.  “I’m Gonna Put You Down” is my favorite track from the album and has a chorus that will stick to your white matter by the end of one listen.
