Wine + porch + ladies + gents + “Muy Tranquilo” = Very Relaxing

If I had to choose between Morgan Freeman narrating my day-to-day or Gramatik soundtracking my life, I’d have to flip a coin.

I am really confusing myself lately. I am not a bass head, I don’t like dubstep, and EDM is a rarely enjoyable experience for me. Why am I getting lost in Gramatik‘s recent electro soul releases (see: “You Don’t Understand”)? Is it because of his past quasi hip hop releases that I trust his talent and ear for good beats? Is it the grooviness and funk he adds to the EDM genre? Is it the hip hop samples (here: Inspectah Deck)? I guess the root doesn’t really matter; I’m down for what he’s dropping. Grizmatik is a duo in which he teams up with Detroit producer GRiZ (can you think of any good producers from Detroit?) to build a wildly penetrating sound that will provide tempo for your temporal lobes and will have your eardrums drumming.

Another Gramatik hit for you. One of my new favorite artists right now, and it hurts that I haven’t known about his earlier works til very recently. I saw him open for Bassnectar a few weeks ago and his sound was so different, but these tracks are done with the same soul-loving mind. He is just a master at incorporating funky soul into his beats that just work out so smoothly. Perfect homework music for many, perfect music for me. This is off of his album Street Bangerz Vol. 1, and its a must listen for anyone who follows this blog for what it is. This is the mind of Beatspill if you ask me.

Sampling Note: This song samples Ernie HinesOur Generation” (1972)

This is how I’m spending my Thanksgiving – chillin out by the Atlantic.  If you’re lucky enough to get the day off, enjoy yourself.  If not, put this track and Gramatik‘s whole Street Bangerz Vol. 2 album on your Work Playlist.
